Why do Pilates?: FAQ

Why do Pilates?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PILATES

Pilates is an efficient, full-body workout that improves your core strength, flexibility, and posture. In  just a few sessions, you will start to see and feel the changes in your body.

DOES PILATES HELP YOU RECOVER FROM AN INJURY?

Yes. Doctors, physical therapists, and chiropractors frequently recommend Pilates to help recover from an injury. Pilates itself is inherently therapeutic and rehabilitative, and you can easily incorporate Pilates with other modalities.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO PRACTICE PILATES?

Pilates may be done with just a mat. You can also add small props such as resistance bands, Magic Circles, and light weights. However, if you have the opportunity to work with me on Pilates Equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrel), you should try it! The equipment adds increased resistance through the use of springs to provide an added challenge. I teach privates and semi-privates at Gotham Pilates, a fully equipped Pilates studio.

IS PILATES BENEFICIAL FOR MEN?

Absolutely. Pilates increases flexibility, which is often a challenge for men. It also strengthens important muscle groups that are often neglected, such as the lower abdominals which lie below the "six-pack" muscle. These muscles are necessary to promote stability, greater core strength, and prevent low back injury.
